Big Security for Small Spaces: How Gallagher SMB Solved a Problem We’d Been Living With for Years

Gallagher featured Solid Security in a case study on our SMB rollout — here's how it solved a problem that followed us into every small-business quote.

Gallagher recently featured Solid Security in a case study on our SMB rollout.

Every small and medium-business quote used to run into the same wall.

A customer wants real security — not a toy, not a glorified doorbell camera — but they don’t want to hire an IT department to run it. For years, the only options were a basic third-party alarm system with almost no visibility into how it actually worked, or Gallagher’s Command Centre: powerful, but often more system than a small operation needed.

Since November 2025, that gap has closed. Solid Security has been installing Gallagher’s SMB solution, and it’s changed how we approach every small-business conversation we have.

The Patchwork Problem

Before SMB, our small-business customers were usually stitching together services that never quite fit. An alarm-monitoring company with no real insight into the access control side. A third-party product for arming and disarming that offered almost no customization. It worked, technically. It just never felt like one system.

“It solves the issue of a small or non-technical customer choosing between an advanced software system they do not understand, and a basic, disjointed system of a 3rd party keypad and 3rd party alarm monitoring,” says Tom O’Brien, Solid Security’s owner.

SMB is cloud-based, needs no servers, and runs from a single app. Arm or disarm remotely. Add or remove users. Manage multiple locations and third-party guarding requests, all from a phone. For customers who found Command Centre overwhelming, that simplicity is the whole pitch.

“Some get overwhelmed by all the bells and whistles,” Tom says. “They’d prefer you to tell them what the system does and how it works.”

What It Looks Like in the Field

The clearest proof came from one of Solid Security’s national customers. Their IT department had been drowning in installation logistics — every new site needed roughly four weeks’ notice just to open network ports and prep the network. At one point, they moved to an AWS server to handle the load, at $1,000 a month.

When Solid Security offered SMB as the alternative, the customer switched immediately. IT stepped out of day-to-day operations. Site managers started running the system directly from their phones. The four-week wait disappeared entirely.

Ten months later, James Cobb, Solid Security’s Senior Project Manager and Systems Engineer, put a number on it: roughly $100,000 saved.

James also points to a smaller but genuinely useful feature — after-hours access. A site manager can text a one-time code straight from the app instead of relaying it by phone, then delete it once the job’s done. For Solid Security’s auto auction customers, where trucks sometimes arrive overnight with nobody there to let them in, that means drivers aren’t sitting in a parking lot until morning. Operations keep moving.

Room to Grow, Not a Ceiling

SMB isn’t a downgrade from Command Centre — it’s an on-ramp. “[SMB] is a low-risk way of solving the basic immediate issue of intrusion detection, and if you decide you need more features or larger expansion, upscaling to Command Centre is easy to accomplish from SMB,” Tom explains.

That matters more than it sounds. A small business isn’t just buying a system sized for today. They’re buying room to grow into, without having to rip anything out later.

Fifteen Years, Two Ends of the Spectrum

Solid Security has spent 15 years protecting critical infrastructure, utilities, corrections facilities, and large-scale commercial and industrial sites. SMB extended that same partnership down to a completely different scale, without losing what made it work in the first place.

Tom credits Gallagher’s support for how smoothly the rollout went. “Gallagher has been exceptionally accessible and knowledgeable as we started learning the new system,” he says. On at least one occasion, a functionality request raised with the Gallagher BDM reached Head Office’s development team within hours.

Whether it’s a large-scale perimeter project or a single small-business install, the same approach applies. “It has always been about helping customers get the right solution and making sure the job gets done the right way the first time,” Tom says. “We are proud of the relationship we have built with Gallagher over the past 15 years.”

Large or small, the partnership is Solid.
